Social Studies Weekly Assignments for September 29-Oct. 3

Parents:  Each Tuesday a TASK is due in social studies.  Refer to the student’s handout for suggested projects.  You may look at last week’s posting to get more details. 

Tuesday:  Quiz # 1 (taken from the Fertile Crescent Fact sheet); Tribe Level Task is due today; Teams create a poster representing their assigned civilization ( in class).

Thursday:  Present posters to the class.  Begin reading and discussing the handout entitled:  Hammarabi’s Code.  This will be finished next Tuesday.


Science Weekly Assignments for September 29-October 3

September 29, 2008
  • Cell Project will be due Friday, October 10.  Students may chose one of the following projects to show their knowledge of cell organelles:  Cell Model of both a plant and animal cell (include the following organelles-cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, cell wall-in plant and chloroplasts-in plant); create a cartoon that represents the functions of the cell organelles listed above; or create a story where the characters take on the functions of the organelles mentioned.

Monday:  Read and complete the worksheet entitled:  The Parts of a Cell:  Reinforcement Activity

Wednesday:  In class create a poster of the main parts (organelles) of a cell and explain their functions.

Friday:  Read the handout on Plant and Animal Cells.  Study for cell quiz and work on cell projects in class with any time left.


Social Studies Weekly Assignments for September 22-26

  • Upcoming quiz in social studies next week over the first 10 Fertile Crescent Facts (students should have a sheet they were given with questions and answers to study from)
  • First (of 5) TASKS are due next Tuesday.  Students have a handout labeled Tribe Task containing the 5 elements of a civilization listed on them-government, religion, writing, job specialization-social class, and art-architecture-public works.  They must choose one of these 5 elements and do one of the suggested tasks listed below that element.  Students know they must answer the question that coordinates with the element they have chosen, however, they may not write out the question or its answer.  Instead, students are to answer the question within the task they choose to do.  The tasks will be due each Tuesday.  Tribe task is due September 30, Village Task is due October 7, City-State Task is due October 14, Empire Task is due October 21 and the fifth task may be done within any level of their chosing.  Students must have one task from each of the 5 elements and cannot repeat any element.

Tuesday:  Read pages 83-86 and answer questions in book on page 86.

Thursday:  Work on Tribe Level Task for Mesopotamia and complete it.  Students will have this task due on Tuesday, September 30.  Please refer to handouts given in class.

Social Studies Weekly Homework for August 25-29

August 29, 2008

Social Studies will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Tuesday:  Recognizing continents and hemispheres.  Read over S 20-23 and completed Interpreting Lines worksheet in class.  No homework.

Thursday:  World Map worksheet can be worked on at home, but we will also work on it on Tuesday of next week.  This assignment is due on Thursday, next week.
