Parents: Students will be completing a Egyptian Newspaper project as part of their assessment over our Ancient Egypt unit. These newspapers will not be due until December 2, however, we will work in class on them at least two days. Students can begin collecting resources (their textbook, handouts provided in class, internet information, library books, etc.) to use on those two days. Students have been given a scoring guide, so please go over the requirements and point values with them.
Tuesday: Read pages 165-171 and complete the Pyramid Cross Section.
Thursday: Read the Pyramid book in class. Students need only listen and take notes when needed.

- Parents: Students should be studying the information presented to them both from the textbook and from handouts given in class. Currently we are studying Ancient Egypt. Students need to know various aspects that reflect the 5 elements/traits of a civilization: Centralized Government; Organized Religion; Art, Architecture and Public Works; Job Specialization and Social Class; and Writing. Please help your child review each element as we study it.
Tuesday: Read pages 155-161 on Job Specialization and Religion. Students need to read “Eye of Horus”, “ancient Religion” and “Burial Customs”. They need to complete the questions on the handout entitled, “Eye of Horus”.
Thursday: Introduce Hieroglyphics (writing) of Ancient Egyptians. Students read the handout entitled, “Break The Code” and make a cartouch in class.

REMINDER: This week is parent teacher conferences, so there will be no after school homework help on Tuesday or Thursday evening.
Tuesday: Students will complete a map of Ancient Egypt. This map is due on Thursday.
Thursday: Read pages 147-151 in social studies textbook and handouts entitled “People of the Nile”. Students will be taking two column notes for this reading and turning in those notes for a grade. The notes will be due on Tuesday of next week.

Parents: Each Tuesday a TASK is due in social studies. Refer to the student’s handout for suggested projects. You may look at last week’s posting to get more details.
Tuesday: Quiz # 1 (taken from the Fertile Crescent Fact sheet); Tribe Level Task is due today; Teams create a poster representing their assigned civilization ( in class).
Thursday: Present posters to the class. Begin reading and discussing the handout entitled: Hammarabi’s Code. This will be finished next Tuesday.

- Upcoming quiz in social studies next week over the first 10 Fertile Crescent Facts (students should have a sheet they were given with questions and answers to study from)
- First (of 5) TASKS are due next Tuesday. Students have a handout labeled Tribe Task containing the 5 elements of a civilization listed on them-government, religion, writing, job specialization-social class, and art-architecture-public works. They must choose one of these 5 elements and do one of the suggested tasks listed below that element. Students know they must answer the question that coordinates with the element they have chosen, however, they may not write out the question or its answer. Instead, students are to answer the question within the task they choose to do. The tasks will be due each Tuesday. Tribe task is due September 30, Village Task is due October 7, City-State Task is due October 14, Empire Task is due October 21 and the fifth task may be done within any level of their chosing. Students must have one task from each of the 5 elements and cannot repeat any element.
Tuesday: Read pages 83-86 and answer questions in book on page 86.
Thursday: Work on Tribe Level Task for Mesopotamia and complete it. Students will have this task due on Tuesday, September 30. Please refer to handouts given in class.

We will begin our study of Ancient Civilizations. The first civilization, we will study, is that of Ancient Mesopotamia.
Tuesday: Plotting the World’s Major Cities worksheet
Thursday: Read pages 83-86 in textbook and read handouts on Mesopotamia

Social Studies will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Tuesday: Recognizing continents and hemispheres. Read over S 20-23 and completed Interpreting Lines worksheet in class. No homework.
Thursday: World Map worksheet can be worked on at home, but we will also work on it on Tuesday of next week. This assignment is due on Thursday, next week.

We will investigate ancient civilizations in Social Studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be used to investigate Science topics.
Monday: No School! Back to School Night from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Tuesday: Policies and Procedures for all classes. Have syllabus signed for both science and social studies.
Thursday: Explore primary and secondary sources. Introduce political and thematic mapping. No homework
